Description

Gaviscon dual action is used for the symptomatic treatment of

• Gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation
• Indigestion following meals or during pregnancy
• Symptoms of excessive acid secretion (hyperacidity)

Using two synergistic methods of antacids (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, Gaviscon Double Action neutralises excessive stomach acid to relieve pain and discomfort.

Alginate (sodium alginate) prevents stomach acid from escaping up into the oesophagus (food pipe), by forming a layer on top of the stomach content to prevent pain and discomfort.

How to use Gaviscon Chewable Tablets 

Chew thoroughly before swallowing.

Adults, including the elderly and children 12 years and over:

When symptoms occur take 2-4 tablets after meals and at bedtime up to 4 times a day.

Children under 12 years:

Under medical advice.

Product can be taken if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, however limit treatment duration as much as possible.

If symptoms continue after 7 days, contact your doctor

Possible side effects:

Gaviscon tablets can rarely result in an allergic reaction, if you experience any of the following symptoms speak to a healthcare professional

• skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness or swelling of the face.

Ingredients

Active Ingredients: 250mg sodium alginate, 106.5mg sodium bicarbonate and 187.5mg calcium carbonate

Other Ingredients: xylitol, carmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, macrogol 20,000, mannitol (E421), copovidone, acesulfame-K, aspartame (E951), mint flavour and carmoisine lake (E122)

Warnings

Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Do not take Gaviscon Peppermint Flavour Tablets if you:
Are allergic to any of the ingredients

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you:
follow a diet restriction in sodium (9.72mmol per 4 tablets) and calcium (7.5mmol per 4 tablets)
advised to follow a low salt diet as daily dose contains 894.26mg sodium equivalent to 44.71% of the adult recommended maximum daily dietary intake for sodium (found in table salt).
suffer from kidney or heart disease, as certain salts can interfere with it.
Have phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic disorder in which phenylalanine builds up because the body cannot remove it properly (3.75 mg aspartame -source of phenylalanine- per tablet).

Do take within 2 hours of taking other medication by mouth (it can interfere with their action), especially:
antibiotics (tetracyclines and quinolones such as orfloxacin)
iron preparation
antifungals such as ketoconazole
digoxin and beta blockers (for heart conditions)
penicillamine (commonly for rheumatoid arthritis)
glucocorticoid (for inflammatory and autoimmune disorders)
neuroleptics (for mental illness)
thyroid hormones
chloroquine (for malaria)
estramustine (for prostate cancer)
biphosphonates (for osteoporosis).
