Description

What is IBS and how do I know I have it?

IBS stands for Irritable Bowl Syndrome and is a condition that effects the digestive system. Although the exact cause is unknown it has been linked to

• Stress, eating and drinking habits
• Food allergies or intolerances
• Stimulants such as coffee
• Hormonal factors
• Family history of IBS

You will experience symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloating, excessive wind and some also have diarrhoea and constipation. Symptoms come and go and can last days, weeks or months at a time.

The condition has currently no cure and is a lifelong problem which make it very frustrating. However, with diet change and medication symptoms can be managed.

Peppermint oil in Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules is an antispasmodic which relax the spasm of the bowel wall. This then relieves the pain due to cramps and allows pockets of gas (can cause bloating) to pass through the bowel and out of the body.

Browns Pharmacy diet and lifestyle tips to manage IBS:

• Have regular meals, try to have it homemade with fresh ingredient and take time to eat.
• Drink at least 8 cups of fluid per day, especially water or other non-caffeinated drinks (e.g. herbal teas)
• Keep a diary of the foods you eat and any symptoms you get – to identify what triggers your IBS
• Try to find ways to relax
• Get lots of exercise T

• Do not miss meals or leave long gaps between eating
• Eat less fatty, spicy or processed food
• Restrict tea and coffee to 3 cups per day
• Reduce alcohol and fizzy drinks
• Limit fresh fruit to 3 portions per day (one proportion should be about 80g)
• Limit intake of high-fibre foods (wholemeal/high-fibre bread, brown rise etc.)

How to use Colpermin IBS Relief

• Do not take the capsules immediately after food Do not take the capsules at the same time as indigestion remedies as they may damage the capsules.
• Do not chew or break the capsules before swallowing
• Push out the capsules from the blister pocket with slight pressure toward the end of the capsule, otherwise they may break.

Adults and children from age 15:

ONE capsule three times daily. For severe symptoms increase to TWO capsules three times daily.

If your symptoms change, worsen or persist for longer than 2 weeks contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Children under 15 years of age:

Possible side effects:

• Occasional heartburn or acid reflux. If you have heartburn already and this worsens after taking Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules, you should stop taking this product and consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
• Nausea and vomiting
• A burning sensation in the mouth.
• Anal irritation

Warnings

Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Do not take this Colpermin IBS Relief if you:
have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients.
are allergic to peanuts or soya.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if:
this is the first time that you have suffered from these symptoms.
you are aged 40 years or over and it has been a while since last attack of IBS, or your symptoms have changed.
you are taking any indigestion remedies.
you have passed blood from your bowel.
are vomiting or feeling nauseous.
have lost your appetite or have unexplained weight loss.
are unusually pale or tired.
you have severe constipation.
you have a fever.
you have recently travelled abroad.
you have abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge.
you have difficulty or pain when passing urine.
are pregnant or breast feeding.
