Medicine can be very specific and therefore it is critical that any information taken from a generalised blog should be combined with specific drug information that you can attain from the Patient Information Leaflet or a healthcare professional.
For all of these specific blogs, the general advice still applies from our earlier blog about how to find the information for the medication you are taking which can be found here.
Unintentionally missing doses of insulin will increase the risk of high blood glucose and even diabetic ketoacidosis. It is important to have a good understanding of any specific instructions given by your diabetic nurse or GP for any scenario where you may miss a dose.
- Never take a double dose of insulin to make up for a forgotten dose
- Always check your blood glucose level and be aware that you may need to test your urine for ketones, particularly if you have any symptoms such as excessive thirst or a fruity-scented breath.
- Make contact with your healthcare professional if you have any concerns or need advice on subsequent dosing.
