If you have someone you know who carries an EpiPen then are you aware of what to do in an emergency?

Anyone close to someone who is prone to anaphylaxis should know how to use an EpiPen or similar device in the case of an emergency. You can follow the guidance below or watch the demonstration video to make sure you know exactly the steps you need to follow.

When using an EpiPen there is no need to remove any clothing but ensure the orange end will not hit any buckles, zips, buttons or thick seams on their clothing.

  1. Remove the BLUE SAFETY CAP
  2. Position the ORANGE TIP at a 90o approximately 10cm away with the orange tip pointing towards the outer thigh. Remember blue to the sky and orange to the thigh.
  3. Jab the ORANGE TIP into the outer thigh at a right angle. Hold firmly for 3 seconds before removing and safely discarding.
  4. DIAL 999. Ask for an ambulance and say anaphylaxis.
